Lucille DeView, who wrote a column for this newspaper for several years, died Wednesday night in a nursing home in Florida. She was 85. DeView’s column appeared in the features pages, most recently in the Monday U section. Her topics included nostalgia, the art of aging gracefully and how people can put a positive spin on even the most hurtful experiences of their lives. She raised two children and worked as a reporter, editor and writing coach at newspapers including the Detroit News, the Christian Science Monitor, Florida Today and the Orange County Register. DeView published a book of essays and poems, “Up North: A Contemporary Woman’s Walden” in 1977 and wrote a play, “A Summer with Hemingway’s Twin” in 1997. The play was based on the summer she spent working at the cottage of Ernest Hemingway’s twin sister. 160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong.
